(A Four Year Part-time Term Federal Government Governor in Council Appointment)
The Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB or Board) is seeking a dynamic individual to be its Chairperson. The Board is one of five resource co-management bodies established under the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement (NLCA).
The NWMB is the main instrument of wildlife management and the main regulator of access to wildlife in the Nunavut Settlement Area (NSA). The NWMB’s mandate is to ensure the protection and wise use of wildlife and wildlife habitat for the long-term benefit of Inuit and the public of Nunavut and Canada. It fulfills this mandate by addressing its various functions, as set out in the NLCA.
The successful candidate will be responsible for Chairing regular Board meetings, public hearings, special meetings and conference calls. The successful candidate will also serve as a Trustee on the Nunavut Wildlife Research Trust which manages financial resources to support vital wildlife research in Nunavut.
The successful candidate must regularly communicate with the media concerning all aspects of the NWMB mandate.
Applicants for this position must be strong communicators, and demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and co-management environment. They must be able to clearly communicate NWMB policies, procedures, programs and decisions to a broad audience.
Fluency in Inuktitut and English is essential. This position requires some travel.
Applicants must have a suitable combination of education and experience. Previous experience on any boards or agencies would also be an asset.
The NWMB will give preference to Inuit beneficiaries under the NLCA who meet the qualifications for this posting.
