Resolution 2000- 085:
Resolved that the NWMB approve a total of five walrus sport hunts for the Aiviq (Cape Dorset) HTO for the 2000 season, subject to the following conditions:
  • That the total walrus harvest by the community of Cape Dorset in 2000 not exceed the average annual total walrus harvest by the community over the last five years;
  • That assignment of the right to sport-harvest each walrus be made in writing;
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 2000 be reported to the NWMB and to DFO at the time of application for walrus sport hunting next year; and
  • That the walrus sport hunts be conducted according to the hunt plan submitted by the HTO for the 2000 season.

Resolution 2000-086
Resolved that the NWMB approve a total of twelve walrus sport hunts for the Igloolik HTO for the 2000 season, subject to the following conditions:
  • That the total walrus harvest by the community of Igloolik in 2000 not exceed the average annual total walrus harvest by the community over the last five years;
  • That assignment of the right to sport-harvest each walrus be made in writing;
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 2000 be reported to the NWMB and to DFO at the time of application for walrus sport hunting next year;
  • That the total numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 1999 be submitted immediately; and
  • That the walrus sport hunts be conducted according to the hunt plan submitted by the HTO for the 2000 season;
And further that the Igloolik HTO be commended for the effective working relationship that they appear to have developed with Igloolik Outdoor Adventures with respect to walrus sport hunting, but be advised that the Board is concerned about the struck-and-lost information or lack thereof in respect to the 1999 hunts.

Resolution 2000-087
Resolved that the NWMB approve a total of three walrus sport hunts for the Hall Beach HTO for the 2000 season, subject to the following conditions:
  • That the total walrus harvest by the community of Hall Beach in 2000 not exceed the average annual total walrus harvest by the community over the last five years;
  • That assignment of the right to sport-harvest each walrus be made in writing;
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 2000 be reported to the NWMB and to DFO at the time of application for walrus sport hunting next year;
  • That the walrus sport hunts be conducted according to the hunt plan submitted by the HTO for the 2000 season;
further that the Hall Beach HTO be asked to advise the Board on who they intend to use as a booking agent for the 2000 season, and also to provide the Board with their rationale in applying for approval to sport-hunt 15 walrus.

Resolution 2000-088
Resolved that the NWMB approve a total of five walrus sport hunts for the Aiviit (Coral Harbour) HTO for allocation to the Coral Harbour Tourism Association for the 2000 season, subject to the following conditions:
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 2000 be reported to the NWMB and to DFO at the time of application for walrus sport hunting next year; and
  • That the walrus sport hunts be conducted according to the hunt plan submitted by the HTO for the 2000 season; and
Further that the Aiviit HTO be asked to explain why they have designated the Coral Harbour Tourism Association to administer these hunts.

Resolution 2000-089
Resolved that the NWMB approve a total of eight walrus sport hunts for Willie Keatainak of Salluit, Quebec for the 2000 season, subject to the following conditions:
  • That these hunts will take place in the Area of Equal Use and Occupancy around Nottingham and Salisbury Islands;
  • That the total walrus harvest by the community of Salluit in 2000 not exceed the average annual total walrus harvest by the community in that Area over the last five years;
  • That assignment of the right to sport-harvest each walrus be made in writing;
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 2000 be reported to the NWMB and to DFO at the time of application for walrus sport hunting next year;
  • That the numbers of walrus landed and walrus struck-and-lost in 1999 be submitted immediately; and
  • That the walrus sport hunts be conducted according to the hunt plan submitted by Mr. Keatainak for the 2000 season.

Resolved that the NWMB approve a donation of $3,000 to the Nunavut Sivuniksavut Program to support a class trip to Australia in April 2000.
