Turbot and Shrimp Allocations

The NWMB is responsible for allocating turbot and shrimp quotas inside the NSA and to Nunavut fishers fishing in marine Zones I and II adjacent to the NSA waters. At present, the NWMB allocates turbot quotas in 0A and 0B and shrimp quotas in the NSA and in 0B:

  • 1500 metric tonnes of Turbot in NAFO Subarea 0B
  • 500 metric tonnes striped pink shrimp inside the NSA
  • an additional 500 tonnes striped pink shrimp inside the NSA, to be harvested in competition with the fishery outside the NSA
  • 1750 metric tonnes northern shrimp in an experimental fishery in Shrimp Fishing Area 2 adjacent to the NSA
  • the entire Canadian quota for Turbot in NAFO Subarea 0A, anticipated to be approximately 2000 metric tonnes.

The NWMB has a new policy on allocating turbot and shrimp quotas, and the deadline for applications is 2001.
