Notice is provided on May 17th, 2016 that the deadline for written submissions and supporting documentation for two upcoming in-person public hearings of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board to consider the Government of Nunavut – Department of Environment’s Proposals for Decision (Proposals) regarding the regional Total Allowable Harvests for the Bathurst and Bluenose-east Caribou herds has been extended.

Background:

The NWMB has been notified of concerns regarding the adequacy of the Government of Nunavut – Department of Environment’s consultation process in this matter. Therefore, to ensure that the public and hearing parties have a full opportunity to provide arguments and evidence regarding the adequacy of the consultation process concerning Bathurst and Bluenose-east caribou, the NWMB has decided to extend the written submission deadline.

The filing of additional submissions:

Written submissions and supporting documentation (in both English and either Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun) will now be accepted until 5:00 PM (Eastern Time) on May 27th, 2016. The requirement for translation at time of filing is mandatory. The extension does not apply to requests for hearing party status, which were required by 5:00 PM (Eastern Time) on May 13th, 2016.

The NWMB is now inviting written submissions by the public and hearing parties concerning:

  • The adequacy of the Government of Nunavut’s consultations on their Proposals for Decision for total allowable harvests for the Bathurst and Bluenose East caribou herds, and;
  • The Government of Nunavut – Department of Environment’s Proposals for Decision to establish total allowable harvests for the Bathurst and Bluenose-East caribou herds.
