The Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB) initiated the Jorgen Bolt Memorial Award in 2021 to recognize Jorgen's contributions to wildlife management in Nunavut. Jorgen was appointed to the Board by the Government of Nunavut-Department of Environment in 2017. During his time with the Board, Jorgen served with dedication and earnestness to ensure that future generations will be able to experience the land as he did.
Jorgen Bolt was a proud member of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board from 2017 to 2020. Anyone who spent any time with Jorgen knows that there were two things that were most important to him; spending time on the land observing and interacting with wildlife, and his family. These passions inspired him to work with dedication and earnestness to ensure that future generations, including his grandchildren, will be able to experience the land as he did.
As a master hunter, trapper, and guide, Jorgen was generous with sharing his wealth of knowledge, often spending hours talking with others about the things he had seen on the land and learned from his Elders. He immensely enjoyed helping younger generations through his time working with high school students and young Indigenous researchers in the Boots on the Ground Program.
Jorgen’s passion for wildlife and his northern heritage was undeniable. The spirit and enthusiasm that he brought to the Board will surely endure.
The annual $20,000 award is split between four (4) successful applicants ($5,000 each) and is designed to assist students from Nunavut in obtaining an education in wildlife, wildlife management or the application of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in wildlife management, which will then be applied to future work in Nunavut.

The deadline for 2026 application will be sometime in September 2026.
Criteria for Eligibility:
1. Applicant must be entering or continuing with post-secondary education that goes towards a degree, diploma or certificate in wildlife, wildlife management or the application of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in wildlife management in Nunavut.
2. Applicant must currently be a resident of Nunavut and have resided in the territory for at least the past two (2) years.
3. The applicant must demonstrate a minimum academic achievement of 65% overall academic record.
